Communities Through Time: Placemaking And Displacement Through The Lens of Transportation

Wednesday, November 9, 2022 and Wednesday, November 16, 2022

5:00 – 7:00 pm

Online via Zoom

Join us for a two-session online workshop! Discover new and unexpected ways to share the history of New York City and the surrounding region in your classroom. Virtually walk through our vintage subway cars and explore historical images and objects that transport us back in time to the early days of public transit in New York. This workshop is designed to provide educators with content, resources, and engagement strategies for students to think critically about how public transportation in New York City has helped create and connect communities, and conversely, how some of the city’s infrastructure projects have displaced others.

At the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with practical tips for incorporating the Transit Museum’s collection into your teaching, including ways to connect New York’s past to what we experience today, and suggestions for classroom discussions and hands-on activities.

Participants will receive 4 CTLE hours
