The New York Transit Museum is the perfect place to spend a day, or even just an hour, with the whole family. Explore our vintage trains and join us for a variety of free-with-admission, hands-on activities. (Times and activities are subject to change/cancellation.) We also offer a one-of-a-kind Birthday Experience adventure.
TRANSIT TOTS
Transit Tots is back! Join us on Thursdays and Sundays for an early morning hour of fun. Come back each week for story-time and craft, imaginative play, and hands-on activities for the youngest transportation fans! Age 18 months—3 years. One adult is required for every child.
Thursdays and Sundays, 9:30am – 10:30pm

For families with children age 18 months – 3 years
Fee: $40 for one adult and one child, each additional adult is $20 (10% discount for Family level members and above. Museum admission is included in the price of the workshop.)
MOVERS AND MAKERS: Family Tour and Workshop
Explore more at the Transit Museum! Join us monthly for a special family workshop, Movers and Makers! Tour select exhibitions and get inspired in our makerspace—each month, investigate a new topic or museum story, and then create inspired artwork and projects together as a family. For families with kids aged 5 -14. Museum admission is included in the price of the workshop. This is not a drop-off program, any child must be accompanied by at least one adult caregiver. Adults must have a child with them to participate.
Second Sunday of each month, 2:00pm – 3:30pm

JUNIOR CONDUCTORS
School’s out, adventure’s in! Step into the world of transportation at this action-packed day camp at our subway station museum. Campers will build, create, and explore through artmaking, engineering challenges, scavenger hunts, science experiments, and more. With a small group setting, every participant gets plenty of support from camp facilitators plus the chance to make lasting friendships with fellow junior conductors.

CREATION STATION
Join us for transit-inspired, hands-on activities which rotate through art, science, technology, and humanities. Examples of workshops include poetry, designing a MetroCard, and creating mosaics. (Times and activities are subject to change without notice.)
Saturdays, 11:00am – 2:00pm and during the NYC DOE Recess Breaks

NYTM SUBWAY SIMULATOR VIDEO GAME
Come experience the subway in a whole new way. Take a turn at being a Train Operator by playing a train simulator video game (OpenBVE). (Times and activities are subject to change without notice.)

PLANNING YOUR VISIT
There is no eating or drinking in the museum. Weather permitting, we encourage you to visit some nearby outdoor eating options, including Columbus Park, Korean War Veterans Plaza, or Cadman Plaza Park. The museum does not have a coat or bag check and cannot store backpacks and coats. For more information: Know Before You Visit.
ACCESSIBILITY
The Transit Museum is wheelchair accessible via a lift which has a total weight limit of 450 pounds. The lift moves slowly and allows one person at a time, so please plan accordingly. If you need to use the lift, please inform us in advance. TRAVELING BY SUBWAY
Taking the train is the best way to begin your visit to the Transit Museum. We are conveniently located at 99 Schermerhorn Street in Downtown Brooklyn, a short walk from:
Borough Hall station: 2, 3, 4, and 5 lines (0.2 miles)
Jay Street–MetroTech station: A, C, F, and R (0.2 miles)
Hoyt–Schermerhorn station: A, C, and G (0.2 miles)
