The E. 180th Street Yard has 8 storage tracks and a 12-track shop building where all new IRT type cars are tested upon delivery. Originally constructed in 1924, the shop was renovated in the 1990s, just in time for acceptance of new R-142 cars that replaced the historic fleet of Redbird trains.
