ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

On view to the public for the first time, Philip Ashforth Coppola’s original drawings and sketchbooks created over four decades provide meticulous studies of the ornamental designs found in the subway system. His work offers an invaluable, exquisite visual guide to the historic ornamental designs of the New York City subway system. Join Senior Curator Amy Hausmann for a gallery talk to explore Coppola’s drawings — exhibited alongside historic subway mosaic and terra cotta from the Museum’s collections — which celebrate the original intent for this great public work and the power of intense observation and preservation.
