Explore the rich history of New York City, past and present, one neighborhood at a time. Through the lens of transportation, discover new places, share stories, and connect with communities.

Penn Station, a Beaux-Arts masterpiece with grand columns and Roman-inspired design, forged a vital gateway to New York City from the west when it debuted in 1910. 50 years later, a decline in rail travel, the rise of the automobile, and lucrative real estate interests led to the station’s demolition, sparking a controversy that helped ignite the city’s historic preservation movement. Today, the station’s transit footprint has expanded to Moynihan Train Hall, and touches of its past grandeur have been reintroduced through new public artworks.

Discover hidden architectural remnants and artwork throughout this transportation hub and explore its ongoing transformation on this walking tour.
