Including over 5,400 linear feet of material, the New York Transit Museum’s archive holds innumerable stories waiting to be told. In the series, Mining the Archives, join Museum staff to uncover transit history.

In celebration of the New York Transit Museum’s annual Bus Festival, Content and Research Manager, Polly Desjarlais, presents archival materials on the evolution of New York City’s street-level transportation. From 19th-century horse-drawn vehicles and streetcars to today’s motor buses, explore how each new mode of transit reshaped the city and changed how New Yorkers move through it.
