Whether you’re a new member or a longtime supporter, this page will help you make the most of your Museum membership.

How do I become a member?

How do I renew my membership?

You can always renew your membership online. Upon completing the transaction, you will receive an automatically-generated receipt. You can also renew by phone Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm, at 718-694-3385 . As your renewal date comes up, you will receive a reminder letter with a renewal slip that you can mail back with your payment in a prepaid postage envelope. Lastly, you can renew your membership at the Admissions Booth during your visit at the Museum in Brooklyn.

How do I unlock my membership account or reset my account password?

If you receive an error message of being locked out of your account while resetting your password, you can either wait 30 minutes and try again, or use the “Forgot your Password” link, enter the email associated with your account, and look for an email with a link to reset your password.

I enjoyed my Museum visit, can I apply the price of my admission tickets to a membership?

Yes! You can apply the amount you paid for your tickets to any level of membership by contact the Membership Office at [email protected] for your discount code. The amount applied may not exceed the price of the membership.

How do I upgrade my membership?

You can upgrade your membership at any time throughout the year. Simply give us a call at 718-694-3385. If you are renewing your membership and would like to upgrade, you can do so online, by phone, or by submitting a renewal slip in the mail, by selecting the level you would like to upgrade to.

How long does my membership run for?

Your membership is valid for one year from the date it is entered into our system, and is non-transferable and non-refundable.

How long does it take to receive my membership card?

Typically, about 2-3 weeks. However, you do not need your membership card to visit the Museum! To book your advanced reservation, log into your membership account on the top right hand page of the ticketing page. If you have not yet registered your email address, visit nytransitmuseum.org/register.

What should I do if I lose my membership card?

Please contact the Membership Office by email at [email protected] or by phone at 718-694-3385, or let our staff at the Admissions Booth know during your visit at the Museum. Replacement cards can take 2-3 weeks to process and issue.

How can I go about adding a caregiver?

All membership levels have the option of adding a caregiver add-on. To see the complete listing of all levels and choose the one that’s right for you, visit our Become a Member page.

How do I reserve admissions for a Caregiver add-on membership?

If you have a Membership add-on, email [email protected] to receive the discount code to reserve tickets online.

How do I redeem guest passes through timed ticketing?

To add a guest pass to a reservation, use the discount coded provided on the back of the guest pass or email [email protected] with the name of the current reservation and the number of passes you wish to redeem. The guest passes will then be added to your reservation. Please note, guest pass requests must be submitted 48 hours before your visit.

How many people are included on a membership?

It varies depending on the level of membership you opt for. To see the complete listing of all levels and choose the one that’s right for you, visit our membership page. Also, Members can buy as many tickets at the member rate as there are people covered by your membership. To purchase additional tickets, you may upgrade to a higher level of membership or purchase general public tickets at full price.

Please note: Museum guest passes and caregiver add-ons are valid only for Museum admission, not special tours.

Is membership entirely tax-deductible?

No, only a portion is tax-deductible and the amount varies depending on the membership level.

Are there any special events for members?

There is a variety of members’ events throughout the year, ranging from exhibition opening receptions to special programs and lectures led by Museum staff and leading experts in the field. Most events are offered at a discounted rate for members and many are free (but tickets are subject to availability). Information about upcoming events will be sent to you in regular mailings and in the Museum’s e-newsletters. How do my member discounts get applied when purchasing tickets online for excursions, programs, and other special events?

In order to get member discounts applied to online ticket purchases, you must be registered on the Museum’s ticketing website. If you signed up online for membership, the email address and password used for that transaction will be your login information for future ticket purchases. If you did not sign up online, it is important to register as this will be the way our system recognizes you. To register, click here.

Please note: Members can buy as many tickets at the member rate as there are people covered by your membership. To purchase additional tickets, you may upgrade to a higher level of membership or purchase general public tickets at full price. Museum guest passes and caregiver add-on are valid only for Museum admission, not special tours.

As a member, how do I find out about upcoming Museum exhibitions and events?

We send out regular mailings and e-newsletter to members with details of upcoming events, exhibitions and special offers. To receive these updates, please ensure we have your current contact information. To update your contact information, contact the Membership Office at [email protected] or 718-694-3385.

Do Members get special discounts in the Transit Museum Stores?

Upon joining, members automatically receive an email to set up an account to purchase items in the online store. If you missed the email, go to the forgot password page and submit the email you used to sign up with your membership. * Please note the online store operates as a separate website from nytransitmuseum.org.

How do I add/cancel an automatic renewal?

If you would like to set your membership to renew automatically, select the auto–renew option during check out. If you selected auto–renew and would like to pause a future membership renewal, please contact us at (718) 694-3385 or [email protected].

Is there a wheelchair accessible entrance at the Museum?

Yes, the Transit Museum’s wheelchair accessible entrance is located on the corner of Schermerhorn and Court Streets in Downtown Brooklyn. Once there, please press the call button to the left of the gate. A staff member will meet you there to operate the lift. For the best service, please email or call our Special Education and Access Manager at 718-694-1823 (Mon–Fri) a few days before your visit.

DIGITAL CARD FAQ

How long does it take to receive my Digital membership cards?

Digital membership cards will be available for download at this link 1-3 days after the membership is purchased. If you have opted to receive physical membership cards in the mail, please allow 2-3 weeks for them to arrive.

However, you do not need your membership card to visit the Museum! To book your advanced reservation, log into your membership account on the top right hand page of the ticketing page. If you have not yet registered your email address, visit nytransitmuseum.org/register.

 

How do I redeem my Digital Guest Passes?

Guest passes can be accessed through the eMembership Card app. To redeem the guest passes included in your membership, make sure the application is downloaded on your smartphone and follow these steps:

  1. Open the eMembership Card app, search for New York Transit Museum, and click our logo
  2. On the Museum’s info page, click the Membership Benefits button
  3. On the Membership Benefits page, select Guest Passes
  4. The member does not need to be present to utilize the Guest Passes! To share your Guest Passes, follow the instructions above and click the 3 dots on the top right hand corner of the page, select the Guest Passes you would like to share, and click the 3 dots again. You can then select how you would like to share your passes.

To apply Guest Passes to Museum admission, have the app open for Museum staff to scan at our ticket booth.

How do I download my digital membership cards?

Digital membership cards are available for download in your Apple or Google wallet, or through the eMembership Card app.

To download cards directly to your smartphone wallet, visit the Membership Anywhere page and search the email address* associated with your membership and your last name. Then, verify your membership information and click “add to wallet” on your card**.

To access membership cards through the eMembership Card app, search for the application in your smartphone app store and download it to your device. Once downloaded, open the app, search for New York Transit Museum, and click on the Museum’s logo. Then, tap Find My Membership Card, enter the last name and email address of your primary member, and tap to Download My Cards.

*If you do not know the associated email, or you are not able to locate your membership, please contact [email protected], or call us at 718-694-3385.

**Please note all membership cards for your plan will appear with this link. If you have multiple adults included in your membership, they can download their own cards by following the same steps.

How do I share Membership Cards with other adults included in my membership?

If you have multiple adults included in your membership, all cards will be available through the same Membership Anywhere link. You can share this link by forwarding your confirmation email to fellow members, who can follow the steps above to download their own cards.

What if my digital membership cards do not appear after I’ve searched my name and email?

If your digital membership cards do not appear when searching your contact information through the Membership Anywhere link, first, make sure you are only searching for the primary email and last name associated with your membership. This is likely the contact information of the person who purchased the membership.

If you’ve confirmed you are searching the primary contact information but still cannot download your materials, please reach out to our Membership office at [email protected], or call 718-694-3385. Our staff will help you locate your membership materials.

Do I need to download the eMembership app to access my membership cards?

No! You can download your membership materials directly to your Apple or Google wallet by using the Membership Anywhere link, and following the steps outlined in “How do I download my physical membership cards?” above.

However, you will need the app to redeem guest passes and bring guests to the museum for free.

Can I still receive a set of Membership Cards through the mail?

Want to hold onto your membership cards? Just fill out this Membership Card request form to request that materials be mailed to you.

Please allow up to 2-3 weeks for your membership cards, guest passes, and confirmation letter to arrive.
