Making Music Under New York: Discussion & Performance

Have you ever been captivated by a melody or transported to a far-off time or place by an amazing musician performing in the subway?  If you’ve wondered how those artists came to be there — or would like to learn how to join their ranks — join Lydia Bradshaw, Manager at MTA Arts & Design, to learn more about the 30^th Year Anniversary of the Music Under New York program and the recent auditions held at Grand Central Terminal. Enjoy a brief performance from 2 participating artists, Sean Grissom and Azusa SHESHE Dance, and hear about their experiences performing in the transit system.

Azusa SHESHE Dance, Blues Singer

SHESHE is a blues songstress and musical theatre thespian, originally from Chattanooga, Tennessee.  Following her dream, SHESHE moved to New York City and last year, submitted an application for MTA Music Under New York (MTA Music) Auditions, auditioned and was selected by the panel of judges to join the MTA Music 2016 roster.  This year, SHESHE participated as a judge for the 2017 MTA Music Auditions, assisting in the selection of new members for the program.

Sean Grissom, Cajun Cellist

Sean Grissom, an electric cellist originally from Texas, has performed throughout Europe, Canada and Japan with his “sure fire foot-tappin’ fun!” He has produced 13 album recordings and his music can be heard in many movies and television shows. Sean has hosted the ‘Holiday Vaudeville’ at Washington, DC’s Kennedy Center for The Performing Arts for 17 years running!  He is a lecturer, teacher, clinician and a long-time MTA Music member, who joined in 1987.
