On June 15th, 1923, the Brooklyn-Manhattan Transit Company (BMT) took over the assets and operations of the bankrupt Brooklyn Rapid Transit Company (BRT). The BRT, which had been incorporated in 1896, was a holding company formed to acquire and consolidate transit lines in Brooklyn, Queens, and New York City. The BRT acquired dozens of surface and rapid transit operators in that territory, including the Sea Beach Railway, the Brooklyn Elevated Railroad, and the Kings County Elevated Railroad. In short order, these services had brand new subway cars, known as AB Standards, moving people around New York.  

Celebrate the centennial on one of the oldest routes owned by the BMT with shuttle rides on the New York Transit Museum’s historic AB Standard cars from 11am to 2:30pm on Thursday, June 15th. Passengers may board the BMT Centennial Train only on the Coney Island bound platforms of the Kings Highway and 18th Avenue stations on the F line.
