Ride the Rails!

The Museum’s vintage train cars are headed on a special trip to the end of the line – the BMT Brighton line, that is! Ride the rails in historic style by hopping on and off a selection of the Museum’s vintage fleet at the Brighton Beach station B/Q platforms, including BRT/BMT “Standards,” BMT D-Type Triplex, and IND R1/9s. A pop-up retail shop and hands-on activities for the whole family round out this day of fun at the Brighton Beach station!

World War I in the Bronx: A Nostalgia Ride to Van Cortlandt Park

In 1917, soldiers, sailors and Marines departed New York City for France to fight in World War I. Before they deployed, some participated in training exercises at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, with patriotic New Yorkers gathering at the Parade Ground to observe the activities. Pack a picnic for a special centennial commemoration Nostalgia Ride on the Transit Museum’s Lo-Vs – celebrating the 100th anniversary of their first year in service on the IRT — to Van Cortlandt Park. There, explore the park, take an optional walking tour of key World War I sites in the park with The Bronx County Historical Society, and learn more about New York City’s role in World War I.

Home Run! Vintage Trains & Baseball in Queens

Join the New York Transit Museum, the New York Gothams, and the Bog Iron Boys for an afternoon of a few of our favorite vintage things: trains and base ball! Hop on board the Train of Many Colors at 34th Street-Hudson Yards and enjoy the ride to Willets Point, where we’ll take in a 19th-century base ball game in beautiful Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, near the site of the first all-star game in 1858. After the game, board the train for a return trip to Manhattan, or make your own double header by purchasing tickets for the Mets game at Citi Field that evening.

Join us on Sunday, September 24, 2017 for our 24th annual Bus Festival! See and step aboard more than a dozen buses from our vintage fleet, representing more than 80 years of New York City surface transit history. Located on Boerum Place between State Street and Atlantic Avenue in Downtown Brooklyn, the event is free and open to the public from 11am to 6pm alongside the festivities, food, and fun of the 43rd Annual Atlantic Antic.

Hop on board our Nostalgia Swing Train for a special express ride from 2nd Avenue station to the Transit Museum in Downtown Brooklyn! Then, triple-step your way through our 1936 decommissioned subway station with live jazz bands, swing dancing, and vintage – an after-hours boogie for the ages! Ticket price includes a one-way ride on the Nostalgia Swing Train, and admission to the after-hours party at the Museum.
